Some years ago at the end of the conference the preacher stood up after the last song.
He was deeply moved. He said: Wouldn’t you want it to go on and on for ever?
I thought: No.
He said: So get ready for heaven. Because that was just a foretaste for heaven.
I thought: If heaven is an endless service, I’m not sure I want to get there.
Sometimes we Christians become over-Spiritual.
We really want to progress in our walk with God.
We take more and more value in so called spiritual things, and lessen the value of mundane or secular things.
And we start to degrade things that are meant to make life colorful:
Food. Wine. Music. Art. Sports. Even Work. …
And then it seems that the more Christian we would become, the less human we should be.
Being holy becomes a list of not-to-dos.
A good Christian doesn’t this! a Christian doesn’t that.
And heaven looks like an endless service.
To me that looks like hell.
But that is just the thought of religion.
This is us humans trying to loose our humanity, trying to be God.
Christianity is the absolute opposite!
It is God, giving away his godly glory and becoming a human.
It is Jesus eating with his disciples.
It is Jesus multiplying wine,
Jesus being in the storm with his disciples,
Jesus being sentenced to death together with criminals,
Jesus rising from the death!
breaking the barrier from you to God.
Christianity is this:
The wonderful mystery of Christ in you, the hope of glory.
27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me. (Colossians 1:24-29 ESV)
If we get, what we have, we will not be silent.
