Summer of Psalms | Psalm 8

21. Juli 2015 by Simon

We are worshipers.
And if we don’t worship God, we will worship something else.
We humans are natural born worshipers.
The question is never «IF» we will worship.
It is „WHO» or „WHAT» we will worship.

Worship means to give worth to something.

So we humans will always talk about what we like, talk about what we love,
sing songs about the things we are endeared of.

And if we don’t worship God, we will worship something else.
But if we worship God, we will free ourselves from worshiping something that is of a far lesser worth.

What really draws into worship, is to see the worth of something.
I’ve been at the exposition in Lenzburg about money.
They were little shrines with pieces of worth.
A Louis Vuitton handbag. A real one.
And you could listen to the explanation of someone who would pay for 2,5 thousand francs for that handbag.
There was also a really expensive bottle of wine.
And I heard the explanation why this Bottle was worth the Fr. 40,000.
I saw the worth of those things through the eyes of the people who see the value those things have.

How about we read the Psalms to see the endless worthiness God has, because we se Him with the eyes of David?

To the choirmaster:according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.
1 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
(Psalms 8:1-9 ESV)

So this short song has the same sentence at the beginning and at the end, and then in the middle there’s that huge revelation:
The God over everything, the most powerful being over all existence shows his power through the weakness of man.

When my son asks: Who is Gods Father?
I have to say: If God is God, nothing and nobody was before God.
He just was, is, and always will be.
Yaweh.

He is the absolute reality.
Nothing that exists, can be outside of His realm.
There is no planet, no black hole, no parallel universe, that is outside of what He is.
It came into being by God and stays in being moment by moment on God’s decision to keep it in being.
The whole stars and planets and galaxies are like
an echo to his voice,
like a drop to an ocean,
like a shadow to a real figure that He is.

and THIS God shows his strength by the weakness of man.
He wins His battle not by coercing the powerful, but with empowering the weak.

Ultimately, this is what happened at the cross.
The weakness of God was stronger than all the powers of Darkness.
Jesus overcame death, sin, sickness all the pain of this world, by becoming it.

This is why later the writer of Hebrews sees Jesus in Psalm 8:

6 It has been testified somewhere,
“ What is man, that you are mindful of him,
or the son of man, that you care for him?
7 You made him for a little while lower than the angels;
you have crowned him with glory and honor,
8 putting everything in subjection under his feet.”
Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. 9 But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
(Hebrews 2:5-9 ESVST)

If God put everything in subjection to Him, He is putting everything in subjection to the Jesus in me.
Can you see His worth?

*God’s Gifts: Living by Grace and Giving with Joy*

In this 5 week Bible series we want to help our children to understand that everything that we have, comes from God, our talents, our salvation, and even our ability to love others. We will discover the gifts of the Spirit, the joy of giving, and how to live a life shaped by God’s grace.

Each lesson includes practical applications, discussion questions, and hands-on activities to help children grow in faith both at church and at home.

Faith isn’t a stagnant thing, it’s meant to move, Faith isn’t a stagnant thing, it’s meant to move, grow, and bear fruit. 🌱
.
We loved this perspective from Ps. Simon Ambler: God has already equipped you with everything you need for a godly life. Our part? Activating that faith through our daily choices.
Stop just looking at the bike. It’s time to start riding. 🚲

C3 Zürich exists so people can know Jesus, find be C3 Zürich exists so people can know Jesus, find belonging, and discover purpose and what better biblical example to learn from than the life of Peter.

Peter’s life reveals the raw journey from ordinary fisherman to Spirit-empowered apostle - called by Jesus. He is so relatable, because unlike other disciples, he is very transparent. He carries his heart on his sleeve. That gives us a chance to see how God takes ordinary people and transforms them as they follow Him.

Join us on this seven week series that was
shaped through failure, restored for purpose, and sent to multiply. We hope you find this insightful and encouraging in your faith journey.

Hey C3 Zurich Kids! This month we will learn tha Hey C3 Zurich Kids!

This month we will learn that God’s love never changes, that our thoughts matter, that our friendships should reflect kindness, and that following God is like training for an important race.
We want to learn to live according to God’s will, from the simplest things
to the most complex.

See you this Sunday and bring a friend. #c3zurich #wearec3 #c3zhkids #sundayschool #c3europe
